FAQ

EVERYTHING YOU NEED TO KNOW

CAPABILITIES & INTRODUCTION

What does FeedHammer actually do?

FeedHammer takes the messy, raw iCal feeds from your Basecamp projects and cleans, formats, and unifies them into a single, high-performance calendar stream. Instead of subscribing to 15 different calendars, you subscribe to one.

Think of us as the data janitor that makes your calendar actually usable. You can organize multiple project feeds into unified groups that you can share with clients or team members, each with their own URL and filter settings.

Does FeedHammer change my Basecamp data?

NO. We are a read-only "middleman". The communication is strictly one-way:

BASECAMP → FEEDHAMMER → YOUR CALENDAR

Changing an event in Google Calendar won't affect Basecamp. Everything stays safe and pristine at the source. We never write back to your Basecamp projects.

Why should I use FeedHammer instead of subscribing to Basecamp feeds directly?

Three killer reasons:

  • Client Sharing: Group specific project feeds together to give your client a single schedule link without exposing your entire company calendar.
  • Sanity: Toggle one calendar on/off instead of managing a dozen separate subscriptions.
  • Filtering: Don't want "Todos" clogging your schedule? Turn them off. We offer granular filtering for Meetings, Todos, and Cards on a per-group basis.
What types of Basecamp events can FeedHammer handle?

FeedHammer supports three types of Basecamp events:

  • Meetings (Schedules) — Events and dated items from your Basecamp schedule
  • Todos — Tasks with due dates
  • Cards — Items from Card Tables with dates

You can toggle each type on or off per feed group to control exactly what appears in your unified calendar.

Can I merge feeds from different Basecamp workspaces?

Yes. FeedHammer can merge multiple Basecamp project feeds from completely different workspaces into a single unified calendar feed. This is useful for agencies managing projects across multiple client Basecamp accounts.

There's no restriction on which Basecamp accounts or workspaces you can pull from within a single group.

What calendar apps work with FeedHammer?

FeedHammer generates standard iCal/ICS format feeds that work with virtually any calendar application that supports external subscriptions:

  • Google Calendar
  • Apple Calendar (iOS, Mac)
  • Microsoft Outlook
  • Any app supporting iCal/ICS subscriptions

FEATURES

What is a feed group?STARTERPRO

A feed group is a collection of multiple Basecamp iCal feeds that get unified into a single calendar output. Each group has its own unique feed URL that you can share separately.

You might create one group per client, one per department, or one per project type. Starter plan allows up to 10 groups, while Pro offers unlimited groups.

How do the filter toggles work?STARTERPRO

Each group has four toggle options in the header:

  • Show Schedules — Include/exclude meetings and events
  • Show Todos — Include/exclude task deadlines
  • Show Cards — Include/exclude card table items with dates
  • Use Emojis — Use emoji prefixes (☑️ 🎫 👥) instead of text labels
Changes are saved automatically. Toggle off Todos if you don't want tasks cluttering your calendar.
What do the status dots next to feeds mean?STARTERPRO

The colored dots indicate feed health:

  • Green — Feed was successfully synced recently
  • Red — The last sync failed (check your Basecamp URL)
  • Gray — The feed hasn't been synced yet (add it to a calendar app to start syncing)
How does the "Last Synced" time work?STARTERPRO

This timestamp shows when Google Calendar (or another client) last requested an update from FeedHammer.

FeedHammer does not continuously poll Basecamp — it fetches fresh data on-demand when your calendar app requests it. Times shown like "5M AGO" or "2H AGO" indicate how recently your calendar was updated.

Can I duplicate a feed group?STARTERPRO

Yes. Click the duplicate icon (two overlapping squares) on any group card to create an exact copy with all feeds and settings. The new group will be named "Original Name (COPY)" and will have a new unique feed URL.

Duplicating counts against your group limit on Starter plans. On Pro, you have unlimited groups.
How do I regenerate a feed URL and what happens when I do?STARTERPRO

Regenerating creates a new unique token for your group's feed URL, invalidating the old one. This is useful if you accidentally shared a feed URL with the wrong person.

After regenerating, you (and anyone subscribed) must remove the old calendar subscription from your calendar app and re-subscribe with the new URL.

In Pro, you can regenerate multiple group URLs at once using bulk operations.
What is white-label calendar branding?PRO

Pro users can customize how their unified calendar feed appears in calendar apps. Instead of showing "FeedHammer" as the calendar name, you can set it to your agency name or brand (up to 20 characters).

This appears in the calendar list in Google Calendar, Outlook, etc. — giving your clients a more professional, branded experience.

What are bulk operations?PRO

Pro users can use the "Manage Groups" page to perform bulk actions:

  • Search and sort all groups
  • Select multiple groups at once
  • Regenerate all selected feed URLs simultaneously
  • Delete multiple groups at once

This is useful for managing large numbers of client feeds efficiently.

How does team management work?PRO

Pro users can invite up to 2 additional team members (3 seats total including the owner). Team members can:

  • Create and manage feed groups and feeds
  • View and modify all team-owned groups

Team members cannot access subscription settings or billing. Only the owner controls billing and membership.

How do I invite a team member?PRO

Go to the Team Management page, enter your teammate's Google email address, and click "Invite." This generates a unique invitation link that expires in 7 days.

Your teammate must sign in with the exact Google account matching the invited email to accept. They cannot accept with a different email.

How do I export my feed groups?PRO

Pro users can export their entire FeedHammer setup from the "Manage Groups" page. The export downloads a JSON file containing every group, its feeds, filter settings, and detected project names.

Use this to create a snapshot of your configuration for backup, or to migrate your setup to another account.

Security note: Export files contain your private Basecamp iCal URLs. Store them securely and treat them like passwords.
How do I import feed groups?PRO

From the "Manage Groups" page, click "Import Groups" and select a FeedHammer export file (JSON). You'll see a preview where you can choose which groups to import.

Importing always creates new groups with fresh feed URLs — it never overwrites existing ones. Imported groups are named with an "(Imported)" suffix so you can tell them apart.

During import, FeedHammer validates every feed URL live against Basecamp and skips any that are invalid or inaccessible.

SUBSCRIPTIONS & BILLING

What subscription plans does FeedHammer offer?

Two plans:

  • Starter ($12/month) — For freelancers managing a handful of clients. Up to 10 feed groups.
  • Pro ($29/month) — For teams managing multiple clients across workspaces. Unlimited feed groups, team access (3 seats), bulk operations, export & import, and white-label calendar branding.
What payment processor does FeedHammer use?

FeedHammer uses Dodo Payments for secure payment processing. All credit card information is handled directly by Dodo — FeedHammer never stores your payment details.

Can I cancel my subscription anytime?

Yes. You can cancel anytime through your account settings. Your subscription will remain active until the end of your current billing period.

If you have an active subscription and cancel, you'll still have access until the period ends. After that, your feed URLs will stop serving data.

What happens when I upgrade from Starter to Pro?

You'll be charged a prorated amount for the remaining days in your billing cycle. The upgrade takes effect immediately, giving you instant access to:

  • Unlimited groups
  • Team management (up to 3 seats)
  • Bulk operations
  • Export & import
  • Custom calendar branding
What happens when I downgrade from Pro to Starter?

Before downgrading, you must either:

  • Reduce your feed groups to 10 or fewer
  • Remove all team members

When you downgrade, any excess groups remain accessible but you cannot create new ones until you're under the limit. You'll receive a prorated credit applied to your account for the remaining time on Pro.

Downgrading dissolves the team — all team members are removed and their groups/feeds transfer to you as the owner.

Can I preview the cost before upgrading or downgrading?

Yes. In your Account Settings, click "Upgrade to PRO" or "Downgrade to Starter" to see a preview showing the exact prorated charge or credit before confirming the change.

This lets you know exactly what you'll pay (or receive as credit) before committing.

PRIVACY & SECURITY

How is my data handled and stored?

FeedHammer minimizes data storage. We prioritize security by storing only what's necessary:

  • Your Basecamp iCal URLs are encrypted at rest in our database
  • Event data is fetched on-demand when your calendar app requests it
  • We do not maintain a permanent database of your personal event history

We're a passthrough service, not a data warehouse. When your calendar app requests an update, we fetch current data from Basecamp, transform it, and return it immediately.

Are my Basecamp feed URLs secure?

YES. Your Basecamp iCal URLs are encrypted at rest in our database. We treat them like passwords — locked down tight.

Since iCal URLs themselves are secret tokens that grant read-only access to your Basecamp data, we protect them accordingly. Since we act as a passthrough, your sensitive project details are never exposed publicly.

Does FeedHammer store my calendar events?

No. FeedHammer does not maintain a database of your personal event history. When your calendar app requests an update, FeedHammer fetches current data from Basecamp, transforms it, and returns it immediately.

No persistent event cache is maintained. We're a passthrough service — your data stays yours.

What authentication method does FeedHammer use?

FeedHammer uses Google OAuth2 for authentication. We only request access to your basic profile information (name and email).

We never access your Google Calendar data, emails, or other Google services. The calendar subscriptions are handled entirely through your calendar app, not through our OAuth integration.

TROUBLESHOOTING

My Google Calendar isn't updating! What's wrong?

Google Calendar runs on its own schedule, usually taking 5-8 hours between refreshes for external feeds.

If the feed hasn't been synced by Google for more than 24 hours, that's rare. Try removing the calendar subscription and re-adding it — this will force an immediate refresh and it will work.

My feed link isn't working / returns an error

First, verify you copied the entire Basecamp iCal URL — it must end with .ics. Ensure the URL is from basecamp.com or 37signals.com.

Check that you still have access to the Basecamp project. If the URL works in a browser but not in your calendar, try regenerating the feed URL from your dashboard.

If issues persist, email us at support@feedhammer.com and we'll help you troubleshoot.

Why is my feed showing a "failed" status?

A red/failed status means FeedHammer couldn't successfully fetch from Basecamp when your calendar last requested an update. This usually means the iCal URL is no longer valid.

Go back to your Basecamp project, get a fresh iCal URL from the Schedule tool, and re-insert it into the affected feed in FeedHammer.

I added a feed but don't see events in my calendar

Check two things:

  • Events exist in Basecamp: Verify the Basecamp project's Schedule tool has any present or past events shown inside it. If there's no event, there's nothing for FeedHammer to display.
  • Filters are enabled: Make sure you marked at least one filter (Meetings, Todos, or Cards) in your group settings — otherwise nothing will show.
Can I recover a deleted group or feed?

No. Deletion is permanent and cannot be undone. When you delete a group, all feeds within it are also deleted. When you remove a feed, it's immediately removed from the unified calendar.

Consider this when organizing your feeds — consider duplicating a group before making major changes if you want a backup.

Why can't I add more than 5 feeds to a group?

You can! The dashboard only shows the first 5 feeds by default to keep the interface clean. Click the + X MORE button to expand and see all feeds in a group.

There is no hard limit on feeds per group — add as many as you need.
